Sure you feel like you know Boston like the back of your hand. But you must have some questions, right? And you must need to get the top-secret info somewhere. Well, you're in luck because Boston has a few highly excellent websites that review restaurants, stores, services, and attractions; fill you in on the latest news and gossip on the city's happenings; and let you know exactly what's going on and when. If you're not already, you should really start taking advantage of these sites. I guarantee you'll learn a lot about Boston you never knew. And you'll go absolutely crazy wanting to try all these hot-spots suddenly on your radar!

I recently started becoming obsessed with Yelp. You’ve probably all seen it. Any time you do a Google search for a restaurant, shop, etc. in Boston, the Yelp profile is probably one of the first things to pop up. Yelp is a website full of reviews from people just like you who are trying out Boston’s restaurants and services. Each place gets a star rating and a little write-up, so you know exactly what to expect.

Since I’ve been reading Yelp reviews for so long, I finally decided to start writing my own and contributing the the community. Now, whenever I eat out or go somewhere new, I think about what I’m going to write on Yelp!

Yelp is, without a doubt, my favorite website to get reviews on Boston attractions. I learn so much from Yelp and will never run out of fun Boston spots to check out!

Yelp Opens My Eyes to New Places

Here are some places in Boston I wouldn’t know about it it wasn’t for Yelp!

T W Food

377 Walden Street A, Cambridge, MA 02138

I’ve never even heard of this place and it has 5 stars and crazy good reviews. Since I trust the opinions of Yelpers, I really want to try this place now!

Um, how amazing does this dish from T.W. Food look?!

Guru the Caterer

1297 Broadway, Somerville, MA 02144

Another place I knew nothing about, Guru the Caterer has close to 5 stars on Yelp. It looks like delicious Indian take-out. How did I not know about this place?!

Chowhound is another site I couldn’t live without. I don’t like their restaurant reviews quite as much as Yelp’s, but I’m obsessed with their message boards. If you have absolutely any question about food in Boston, someone will be there to answer it for you…and often, multiple someones! From the super specific question like “Is it better to order a small or a large pizza at Upper Crust?” to the more open, “Where can you get the best nachos in Boston?” The Chowhound community answers it all.

Chowhound is also the place to go to for all the hot rumors in the restaurant industry…what’s opening, closing, changing ownership, etc.

Plus, they always have super amazing recipes posted.

Chowhound Answers All My Burning Questions

Got a question about a restaurant in Boston? Wondering where to get the best of the best? Just ask on Chowhound…or browse the already busy message boards. I’ve learned so much!

Taqueria LA Mexicana

247 Washington Street, Somerville, MA 02143

Someone asked where to get the best nachos in Boston and no all the Chowhounders are making me want to try the nachos at Taqueria La Mexicana reallyyyy badly! But they give so many good suggestions, it could be a long while before I’ve tested them all!

It may not look like much from the outside, but according to the Chowhounders, the nachos from Taqueria La Mexicana are out of this world!

I’m a fan of Going.com for their frequent updates about what’s going on in Boston. You can go directly to their site or you can opt to receive their weekly e-mails that tells you everything happening in Boston. Things you would never hear about otherwise (or at least I wouldn’t…and don’t)!

If you really want to get into it, you can join in on the social networking aspect and learn who’s going to what events. A great way to meet people and learn about fun happenings in Boston!

Expand Your Boston Knowledge With Review Sites

Here are some of the places I learned about from keeping up with review sites for Boston. Pretty much everyday I hear about a place that I just have to try out!

Daily Candy always has the hottest in Boston happenings. You can visit their site daily or you can opt to get their daily e-mail. I currently get the daily e-mail specific to Boston and their general one as well. First of all, the e-mails and their illustrations are beautiful and fun. But more importantly, Daily Candy is always on top of the hottest places and going-ons in Boston.

I look forward to getting my daily Daily Candy e-mails and often have to write details on my calendar after reading them!

Charlie's Kitchen

10 Eliot Street, Cambridge, MA 02138

I never heard of Charlie’s Kitchen until I got a Daily Candy e-mail about it the other day, and now I’m dying to go to their outdoor beer garden in Harvard Square!

Sweet Cupcakes

49 Mass Ave. Boston, MA 02115

One of my favorite things about Daily Candy is that they probably love cupcakes and baked goods almost as much as I do. So of course they announced the opening of Sweet on the day it opened. They never let a good cupcake slip by their radar!

And the cupcakes at Sweet are sooo delicious just like Daily Candy told me they would be.

Thrillist is one of the newest Boston review/announcement sites. They are usually known as the man’s version of Daily Candy, but that doesn’t keep me from subscribing to it. I need to keep up on what the men of Boston are doing after all! Thrillist will fill you in on lots of super cool man-friendly boutiques and fun restaurant openings. It’s only been up for a few weeks, but I’m already loving it! Be sure to subscribe to their daily Boston e-mail.

Who Says Thrillist is Just For Men??

So maybe the Thrillist is known as the man’s version of Daily Candy, but nobody ever said it’s just for men. In fact, I would never have found out about some very cool spots in Boston if not for Thrillist.

D Street Cafe

600 D Street Boston, MA 02210

D Street Cafe just recently opened, but I would have had no idea if it wasn’t for Thrillist. It’s an outdoor restaurant seating 80. Hellooo, this is right up my alley. Not to mention, Thrillist tells me that they have a grilled cheese sandwich that comes with a strawberry-habenero dipping sauce. Can you say yum?? Thanks to Thrillist, I have a feeling this could become my new favorite place!

X-Squared

209 Newbury St. Boston, MA 02116

X-Squared is one of those places I kept hearing about but didn’t really understand. Until I read about it on Thrillist. I’m a little bit ashamed to say that the first place I heard about it was on My Super Sweet Sixteen. But now I know exactly what it is. X-Squared is an unmarked 2-level concept shoe boutique located on Newbury St. It’s unmarked! Which would make me feel super cool entering it…even if I’m not in the market for some new totally funky shoes. Must. Go. Here.

How cool is this shoe store and how have I never been here?! Oh right, because it’s unmarked and I haven’t been cool enough to figure it out yet…until Thrillist told me.

Boston
I love cupcakes, the color pink, writing, technology, blogging, trying to learn Japanese, and walking from one end of Boston to the other. I make it my goal to try one new thing in Boston every week, but sometimes I find things I love so much, I just can't tear myself away from them. Boston...
