Back To School & Back To The 90's
Back To School commercials are dominating the commercial spots, and frantic children are buzzing around on Starbucks caffeine highs while buying the coolest techy gadgets to bring to the 1st day of class. But before laptops, iPods and cell phones, the kids of the 90's were sharpening their Yikes! Pencils, snagging the latest Lisa Frank creation, and cleaning out their plastic cartoon lunch box. What was your favorite 90's school supply?
Almost every 90’s girl had something from Lisa Frank’s collection: an eraser, notebook, folder, Trapper Keeper, pencil, pencil case, sticker, backpack. Lisa owner 90’s school girls.
But looking back, her work was seriously odd. Where else will you find puppies, unicorns, whales, polar bears, pandas, bunnies, rainbows, palm trees and dolphins in neon colors on one notebook cover? Pretty trippy.
Classic
The sound of the Velcro ripping apart meant the school day was starting.
Trapper Keepers Let You Express Yourself
This Trapper Keeper says “I’m a rebel and love fast cars” even though the only rubber I’m burning are my two bike wheels.
Listen to that 90’s electric guitar theme music. love it!
You always renewed your subscription before the school year started! I mean, no child of the 90’s could live without Hidden Pictures after school.
Remember the Oily Stickers?
Those were the million dollar stickers during a sticker trade at school. I made sure to have a whole pack before September.
Pog Collection
I mean, who are you if you don’t have a pog collection? Nobody, that’s who.
Scrunchie Socks!
I rocked these socks EVERYDAY to school.
Stick-On Earrings
I couldn’t have been the only girl obsessed with stick-on earrings, right? I didn’t get my ears pierced until I was 12, so I was obsessed with these as a kid. But I saved all my good ones for “special occasions,” which obviously means I still have them somewhere!

After School Specials
I usually opted to watch cartoons instead of these. I was pretty sure I’d learn some type of lesson one way or the other.
Check out her Blossom hat. I totally had one of those.
Join The Cult...I Mean Club
Hi, my name is Alexis, and I was a Lisa Frank Member.
Wait, lifetime member? They’re still not sending me anything. What a ripoff.
I wonder what the new excuses are? My hard drive ate it?
I can’t believe they still air this commercial. I still get upset when it starts to take over TV in August. It was the signal that summer was over. Even if there was a few weeks left they were tainted by this evil song and dance.
Lunchables
I never had any desire to eat a lunchable, although my friends couldn’t get enough of them. Can someone please explain this food phenomenon. Thanks!
Cartoon Lunch Box
You were into accessories back then and you didn’t even realize it. Although the real question is, are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles still part of your wardrobe?
A totally kick-ass eraser collection
Who the heck uses the stubby little pink erasers on top of pencils? Losers! We were big into eraser collections at my school, but because they were “collections” we didn’t use them so much as erasers. Gotta preserve ’em.
Tamagotchi
You weren’t cool if you didn’t have a Tamagotchi to “take care of.” They had to make rules at my school about these because we were all getting too distracted by them.

Friendship Bracelets
Good way to establish who you’re friends with early in the year..
Fruitopia
OMG, remember Fruitopia? I’m pretty sure it was just Kool Aid in a far out bottle.
