Get up. Go to work. Be a dad. Go to sleep. Repeat. My single friends (both of them, now) don't get how overwhelmingly busy, yet decidedly wonderful my hectic life is. Here's what fatherhood activities in Denver are all about.

Okay Dads out there...

Raising kids is a blast. But only if you get into it. And I don’t mean throwing them in front of a TV all day. I mean playing and going on adventures. Here’s a few of the ones I have been doing. I am running out of ideas. Use mine and I’ll try yours.

Central Park in Stapleton

Central Park

Martin Luther King Jr Blvd & Xenia St, Denver, CO 80238

This is only 2 blocks from my house. The problem isn’t getting them there, it is getting them to leave. Each visit is good for about 1.5 – 2 hours. They have water fountains, large grass fields, a playground that has a rubber-ized floor and sports mini-hills, a large sandbox, rock climbing and a neo jungle gym

A Puck for a Lifetime

Okay, yes, this is the Pepsi Center. But that puck is on the table next to his bed. Ask what he is now and he’ll tell you “Spiderman.” Ask him about what he wants to be when he grows up, a hockey player.

Broomfield Event Center

11450 Broomfield Ln, Broomfield, CO 80021

Even in a recession, it’s pricey to take a 3 year old to a Avalanche hockey game especially when the pro game moves faster than even the most observant child can handle.

So start ’em young at a Rocky Mountain Rage game. My three year old loves the lights, sounds and “all-grown-up” feel of going to a hockey game with dad. And I like the price.

I went on it once and my heightened vestibular (sense of balance) system kicked in. Not again.

Santa's Workshop/North Pole

5050 Pikes Peak Highway, Cascade, CO 80809

Yes, I go to the North Pole often. Sound cheesy? WELL, IT’S NOT. Anyway, cheap and easy rides with little to no lines. The boys love it. And I do too. Other than that damn 3 story slide and its God-forsaken stairs.

Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World

7970 Northfield Blvd, Denver, CO 80238

No, I don’t fish. I really don’t get it. Or hunt. It’s all for the same reason I don’t do yoga. I need action.

That’s not what I am talking about here. Bass Pro has a decidedly huge waterfall and large fresh water aquarium with catfish, Northern Pike and other delicious fishys.

And for some reason, boys (and males in general) are fascinated by such a display.

aka The Dinosaur Museum

Denver Museum of Nature & Science

2001 Colorado Blvd, Denver, CO 80205

Why are dinosaurs and spaceships so frickin’ cool if you’re a guy?

Granted I’m not into it like I was as a youngster but I still don’t get bored here. And neither do my sons. Whether youre trying to dock a toy space shuttle (which I haven’t been able to do nor have I seen anyone do it), experience the force of a meteor with a giant steely marble and some sand or are mesmerized by a real Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton, you’ll find a couple hours here that are enjoyable to both you and your kids.

Words of advice: as much as your kids will devour real freeze-dried astronaut ice cream, that stuff is repugnant.
