2.0 Means What…?

Web 2.0 ... The Machine is Us/ing Us

My family was addicted to this video well before the April ‘07 Web 2.0 conference in San Francisco, where it was shown center-stage (10k in attendance). This remains a center-stage discussion piece, any time we’re trying to explain “the future of the Internet” to friends, family, dinner parties, etc.

Social Bookmarking

Social Bookmarking in Plain English

Third point is what i’m always saying to people. It’s not just that this is online – it’s that it becomes a NEW resource to other users. (And, other folks’ bookmarks are waiting for YOU to harness…)

My bookmarks for "Innovative User Interfaces"

On the topic of social bookmarks… It’s useful that I can share a link with someone that is a subset of my book marks – in this case, a list of sites i tagged “innovative user interfaces.” Another i refer folks to often is my “Phone2.0” tag. Handy, eh?

Ways to Organize Email – By Thread

In ‘07 I started playing around in Outlook with better ways of using & managing email.
Goes like this:
1.) I keep emptying my Inbox & Sent, and moving them into a single “Inbox & Sent”
2.) I periodically sort by Thread, & delete all but the most recent (as long as it has the full thread)
3.) I keep lots of folders by specific topics (like a client or partner) but treat those as the “Inbox & Sent.”
This all keeps the Outlook database size to a minimum & makes it easier to find stuff.

Below, this (silly & fun) video from Gmail presents their view of the thread organization feature – and why they think it’s better. I’m exploring Gmail these days, and it is definitely a different animal when you’re trying to process, organize and not get overwhelmed by 100 emails/day.

Email threads – get in line!

Photo-Synth presentation at TED

One of my favorite videos, this is the “Video Presentation.” Flickr gone made. Worth watching.

“Identity” (2.0)

Identity 2.0 Keynote

Identity 2.0
What is “identity” in the Internet of the future? (Yes, this is the video i was talking about…)

Home Product Reviews (The Experience)

CrunchGear.com - Sprint UpStage

I like this use of video for a “Home-Reviewer” platform. I think usability has really suffered of late, and hopefully videos like this (including the bitch-sessions) can turn that around.

Other, Random & Entertaining Videos

Will It Blend? (Crowbar)

The “Will It Blend” series must be a YouTube case study / best-in-class example. If nothing else, exemplifying how to bring off-line commerce online. [answer: pulverize an i-pod]

Skateboarding Bulldog

I found these originally on YouTube, but once I found the original website, I deleted those bookmarks. (Note: this website, in denial, uses the YouTube-hosted videos, where they are socially recommended…) Addictive, for my 4 yr-old son and his 62 yr-old grandmother. (How can that be a bad thing?)

Why Americans are Fat (French, w/ Subtitles)

LOL. (One more argument for living abroad.)
