There are things that I love in spite of myself. Things that are geeky. Things that are overtly corporate. Things that are annoyingly hip. Things that I know, deep down, are bad but I love them anyway. Here are a few of those things.
I love many of these things too, but I don’t feel guilty about it. There is totally nothing wrong with staying up late at night, playing boggle all alone with your computer while watching BSG with a cup of Starbucks. Right?
I was for sure you were going to put something in here about boobs, considering the profile pic… and while I would normally call this flagrant false advertising, I did enjoy the Milla Jovovich section. 5th Element… oh man, what a movie!
BSG! – I am a total nut for this show, though I don’t usually admit it in public. Way fracking awesome.
So much better than it should be.
Battlestar Galactica
Over and over I kept hearing how great this show was. Every geek I know was crazy about it. I was very skeptical. I grew up watching the original Battlestar and even as a 10 year old I knew it was terrible, so I didn’t hold out much hope for the new show. Then I got the first season from Netflix and watched it. It is so Fracking good.
A lot of people hate Boggle. They think it is the idiot step-child of games like Scrabble. They don’t understand the beautiful simplicity of it. Boggle is all about finding patterns in chaos. It’s good practice for life. And I like the little hourglass timer too.
I know that there are a million ways to download music that are cheaper and better than the iTunes Store. I am also aware that every time I buy a song from iTunes I am driving another nail into the coffin of the independant record store. But the truth is, it’s so easy! Everytime I connect my ipod to my laptop it just pops up. If I want a song, or a record, or an audiobook, I click a button and I have it. I can’t stop.
I am not a big fan of Kevin Smith’s movies. I think they are over-written, badly acted, and not nearly as clever as he thinks they are. Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma. I think they are all bad. That said, I wasn’t expecting to like Smodcast, the weekly podcast that Smith and his partner Scott Mosier produce. It is basically just the two of them talking for an hour about the stupidest subjects in the world and it is hilarious. I am officially hooked.
I grew up with parents that listened to NPR in the car and I could never figure out why anyone would want to listen to that crap. It seemed to me like it was a lot of white people talking in low unexcited voices about boring stuff. The radio I liked had Deejays with excited voices and sound effects. Guys with names like Gonzo and the Wrecking Crew, or Doctor Rocktopus. But now, I love NPR. I listen to it all the time. All Things Considered, This American Life, Car Talk, Wait Wait, Don’t tell me. I love them all.But I draw the line at a Prairie Home Companion. That still bores me stiff.
People raved to me about Tivo for years. I thought it sounded dumb and a little sad. Is TV so important to people that they want to have a robot at home picking shows for them to watch? If you really want to record a show what was wrong with a VCR? Well, I got Tivo a year ago as a gift and it is the best thing ever. It has changed my life. Thank you Tivo.
I take my diet pretty seriously. I never eat fast food. The only place that ever tempts me is Sonic. I love the Tater Tots, the Shakes, the Cherry-Vanilla Limeade. It’s all good. And I love pulling up in the shade and eating in the car. Sometime this Summer, I am going to totally break down and eat at Sonic.
Actress, Model, Musician, Milla Jovovich. Her movies are, almost without exception, awful. UltraViolet, The Messenger, The 5th Element, The Resident Evil franchise. Terrible movies. And she is so bad. Really not very talented at all. And sort of odd-looking too. And I love her. I’ll watch her in anything. I don’t really know why.
The corporate giant that looms over all of us. I hate that a chain of overpriced coffee shops have become such a core part of the American lifestyle. I hate that there is almost no corner left in this city where you cannot see a Starbucks if you look around. I don’t like that they have started selling music and books and sandwiches and a whole way of living to go along with the coffee. But still, almost every single day, sometimes more than once a day, I find myself in a Starbucks lining up for my cup of corporate nectar.
I know I can’t justify eating veal. It’s cruel, inhumane, and completely ridiculous that it is even legal to produce. But it is so delicious. It is so much better than chicken. Mmm…veal.

Click here to log in.Great guide. Although, I think that A Prairie Home Companion is amazing! Have you heard the stories? or Guy Noir?
I heard the reason they changed the lady on the Starbucks logo is because she came off as too scandalous. Now that is sad.

Oooh, Boggle! Yay!
TIVO MAKES THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE. END OF STORY.

I also can’t stnad typos. Oops.
Fantastic. I love Kevin Smith movies and can’t stnad the Snodcast. I guess we weren’t meant to be…
