While driving the other day I had an epifany. Many of my favorite songs are all the 8th track on the album. Is this a musical conspiracy? My favorite number is 8! Is it coincidence? Whatever it is, I could go on forever, but this is just a short guide to fabulous 8th tracks. I'll update frequently! Enjoy, and let me know your favorite 8th track.
Nicole Atkins and The Sea- Brooklyn's on Fire
I love this album,Neptune City, and I love her and this 8th track happens to be ridiculously awesome. I sing my heart out each time I listen. She makes you think you can sing too. My poor pasengers in the car are always embarassed when I belt out as loud as possible.
From their hugely popular album Funeral, this song struck me as a little different than some of the others and has always just been a favorite. I never get sick of this song, or the entire album for that matter. If you havn’t heard it…where have you been? And if you get the chance, see them live. Mind-blowing.
She’s got a gold tooth, you know she’s hard core. From Paul’s Boutique, one of the best albums ever, this 8th track is perfect for a party mix or to clean house. A must have in your collection, but you have it already, right?
My sister and I like to call each other on the phone and sing this to each other. From the masterful Blue Album, one of Weezer’s most popular, sprung this song that is too fun not to sing and dance along with. I love Weezer. really, I do.
Like the song says, it’s perfect to drive to. And shake your ass. Yeah, I used to wear my hemp necklace and raggedy birkenstocks while dancing around at the shows, but they’re good. I don’t care what you say! This 8th track wonder is off of their album Spacewrangler, one of their best. Classic Panic.
I’m from Texas, and born in a small town not outside of Tyler. This band, from Denton, Texas, was a big favorite when I was in high school. The album, Rubberneck, was continuously in rotation in my car cd changer….perfect for teenage angst, or just good workout music.
I personally think this song, with Emmylou Harris singing back-up, is so pretty I cry when I hear it. The album, I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning, is pretty much perfect in every way. I cannot listen to this too many times. In fact, right now, I’m a little nervous because I can’t find it. I feel naked without it. Help me! PS…Conor Oberst is a genius.
From their debut release, She and Him Vol. 1, this song just makes me feel good. Originally by Smokey Robinson, Zooey Deschanel’s version is just too pretty for words. Go get this album. It is alt country at it’s best.
From their album Water, this song is sweet and sad at the same time. The band’s ‘surf’ sound makes them appealing to a variety of listeners and great background music for dinner parties.
I’m gonna getcha, getcha, getcha, getcha. Even though it’s on The Best of Blondie album, and I was trying to avoid ‘best of’s’, this song is just too dang good, and this album really should be in your collection! Blondie, the ultimate female rocker.
