7 Deadly Sins-Colorado Style
Think you have to head to 'Sin City' to indulge your bad side? Colorado has a few, tamer ways of showing we know how to let loose...a little. Take a look at sinning, Colorado style. Not as sinful as you'd think!
7 Deadly Sins
Greed, Gluttony, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, Pride, and Lust. These sins are thought to be the worst sins and can keep your soul from salvation. In my opinion, they are some of the most often committed! Oops.
Greed- Gambling
No need to fly to Vegas to gamble your hard earned salary away. We have Black Hawk, Cripple Creek and Central City. Thousands of natives and tourists alike flock to the casinos in these Colorado cities to press their luck at the tables and slots and to pretend they are in Vegas for a night. The only problem is….no drunken wedding, the buffets are even worse, and the strip is non-existant. Still….it’s greedy!
Lust- Fireman Chili Cookoff in Larimer Square
Here’s a tip to men looking to meet a woman without seeming too obvious. Hit up the annual Fireman Chili Cook Off in Larimer Square. I go each year and see more woman in this small block than at Macy’s during their Red Apple Sale. Hot firemen from all over the country serve up chili (proceeds go to charity) and Women line up to buy the fireman calendars. It’s a fun, friendly atmosphere with tons of great looking, all American guys and the woman who lust after them.
Envy- Cherry Creek North
All you have to do is take a drive through Cherry Creek North Shopping Center to see it’s all about the bling, the cars and the clothes. You’ll fin da bevy of Range Rovers, Mercedes and the occasional Rolls Royce. The ladies wear the finest and most expensive apparell and the men use more gel than I did on my ‘80s perm. If you don’t have the cash, you can’t play. One happy hour at NoRTH Italian Restaurant will show you it’s all about being the prettiest, richest, thinnest and tannest one there.

Wrath-CU vs CSU Football Game
This game is one of the biggest the two teams play and the fury between the teams and the fans is palpable. The teams train for weeks, the fans drink for hours and the media is there to film the players slamming into eachother while the fans throw punches in the parking lots. It’s not exactly war, but it comes pretty close for a day.
Pride- Denver Gay Pride Fest
I can’t say this is sinning, b/c it’s so much fun and one of the top ten pride fests in the U.S.A. This year’s theme is ‘Fun. Free. Fabulous.’ If you haven’t ever been to one of the parades, it’s a 2 day, non-stop party with lots of scantily clad men, proud lesbians, drag queens and all their friends and family letting everyone know they are PROUD to be here and who they are. Check it out….a lot of fun.
Gluttony- Denver Restaurant Week
Each year for one week, Denver and some surrounding cities are lucky enough to have loads of restaurants participate in what is known as Denver Restaurant Week. For $52.80 (get it, 5280) a couple can dine on generally 4 courses at some of the best spots in town. You would usually spend twice that. I know some foodies that go out every single night of restaurant week to take advantage of the great deals. And then they spend the next week working off all those extra calories. It’s a great deal for a date and an excuse to try that restaurant you wouldn’t normally try.
Sloth- 16th Street Free Mall Ride
I know. I know. This is a stretch. But we are one of the most active and physically fit cities in the nation! This one was hard. So, living off the 16th Street Mall, I do a lot of walking up and down this street, and see all the riders of this free shuttle get on and off daily. I know walking from the train station to Glenarm is a treck, particularly in heels or with a brief case, but if you’re only taking the shuttle from Larimer to Champa do you really need to hop on? Take a walk and enjoy the great weather. Except when it’s snowing. In May.
