What a chicken-shiat way to win an elimination game. We came back to tie them 8-8 in the bottom of the 6th (the final inning), so it went to extra innings. Two outs into it, still tied at 8, their manager notices we did an illegal substitution in right field. After about 30 minutes with the tournament director, it’s determined that the game is not a forfeit; however the player in right field is ejected from the game and his spot in the batting order becomes an automatic out in the bottom of the 7th.
We resume play and give up two more runs so it’s now 10-8. We get the last at bat. In the bottom of the 7th we score one to make it a 10-9 game. With two outs and a man on third, they decide to walk the bases loaded and get to the automatic out from the illegal substitution. We refuse to go down without a fight. Our first intentional walk batter swings at one and sends it foul. After he walks, we decide to send our third base runner and force them into a rundown. He’s tagged out at third.
Game over, season over.
We started together back in January on a snowy field in Colorado. We end on a muggy night in Oklahoma in July. We’re proud of you boys.
