The Cossetta family figured out how to bring Italian taste to a Midwest market in the early part of the last century and parlayed their experience into a St. Paul crowd-magnet. The cafeteria-style dining is good for the lunch bunch or hungry families trying to keep a lid on the cost of eating out. Red sauce dominates Cossetta’s offerings, and the bread is more American Italian, but the dishes are hearty and flavorful. The pizza is also a hit with almost anyone’s taste buds, including local food critics. Most of the fare in the restaurant and the adjoining market is imported. You can also order take-out, or take home salamis, sausages, porcini mushrooms and various cheeses and dry pastas direct from the old country.

Home to the highly popular NHL's Minnesota Wild as well as the National Lacrosse League's Minnesota Swarm, the Xcel Energy Center can seat over 18,000 for its consistently sold-out games. Its large, covered arena also sees the arrival of touring events and performers, including everything from figure skating championships to the Blue Man Group. The center is located on the southern side of downtown, near the Mississippi River and many restaurants and hotels.

Created as a place where all sizes of performing arts events, from plays by small community troupes to events by internationally touring groups, could be shown, the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts is a sprawling complex that entirely meets this aim. Local groups using the complex include the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Schubert Club and The Minnesota Opera and venues range from an 1,800-seat main stage to a smaller, 300-seat theater to rehearsal spaces. It is located in downtown Saint Paul, near the Landmark Center and the Xcel Energy Center.
