With spring in full effect it's time to start thinking about what to wear. It's time to put away your winter clothes and get ready for the season. Emerald Dandy recommends paying close attention to the following designers who have received rave reviews; read on and I'll show you why.

Alexander Wang

Tight fitting clothes and bold colors are what makes Alexander Wang stand out from the rest. As the economy has brought about a somber spring fashion sense, Wang went against all odds to bring excitement into our wardrobes this season. Keep your eye out on him, Alexander Wang has received lots of positive press and is starting to get noticed.

Chloe

With Chloe’s newest designer at the helm, Chloe’s spring collection was about cleansing the palette. Light and airy frocks with feminine scalloping details is what really brought this collection home. With a breakout collection such as this, I can’t wait to see what Hannah MacGibbon creates next.

Halston

Thank you Halston for infusing more color into this season! Though the future of the line is uncertain, the in house design team has worked feverishly at creating a colorful and comfortable collection remniscent of the Studio 54 era.

Michael Kors

I can honestly admit this is the first Michael Kors collection I have EVER enjoyed. Personally I’ve always felt his collections were dull and lifeless, having banked his career on his Project Runway successes. This season he’s proven me wrong, injecting his collection with bold and beautiful colors. Vibrant reds, blues, and yellows leaves us feeling refreshed and optimistic that these hazy days will soon pass.

Yves Saint Laurent

To me (and many others), Yves Saint Laurent is the epitomy of Parisian fashion. This season was all about the cage, paying homage to the Eiffel Tower. One reason I find myself loving YSL is the timeless qualities that come out of each and every piece. Whether it be next season or next year, your YSL pieces will never be out of style.

Balmain

Balmain this season was heavily inspired from militaristic influences infused with a sense of glamour and ease. With a combination of scantily clad dresses and jeans paired with military blazers, Balmain has something for everyone. My personal favorite is the look shown above; it won’t be long before you start seeing other designers recreating this blazer.

Dries Van Noten

J’adore Dries! Though this season is filled with neutral and monochromatic details (a sudden change from his typically extravagant prints), Dries surely doesn’t disappoint. Each piece can be easily translated from runway to realway, making his collection very easy to understand. This season I personally enjoyed his intricate detailing of embroidery on his dresses and coats.

Marc Jacobs

Critics have considered Marc Jacobs Spring 09 collection to quite possibly be his best collection to date. Jacobs set a tone of fun and excitement, combining inspirations from all across the globe. Though seemingly trendy, each piece upon closer examination are proven to be versatile and extremely wearable pieces. If owning a piece of Marc Jacobs seems to be too much for you, I’d recommended snagging one of the fantastic handbags he created for Spring, they’re definitely worth it!

Marni

The House of Marni is always going against the odds and creating collections wearable to any walks of life. Focusing primarily on prints, fabrics, and cuts shows that Consuela pays close attention to her pieces. Never heard of Marni before? That’s because they don’t advertise. Consuela believes that Marni is for everyone, and is not about to shove some sort of “ideals” down your throat.

Phillip Lim

Phillip Lim exuded femininity this season paying attention to the details of each look. Bows and ruffles are the recurring theme this season, completing each piece with a flirty little extra. Ladies, if you find yourself without anything ruffly or feminine, now is the time to change!

What about Opening Ceremony?

Marni is rocking my WORLD this season. Galliano’s Fall/Winter 2009, too, even though there’s no way I can ever wear anything he makes, as I am simply not that fierce.
