That Time of Year: 2009 New Year's Resolutions
.jpg)
I don't know about you, but even though I haven't accomplished everything I wanted to this year, I've come a long way from where I was last year and hope to make even more strides towards Nirvana in 2009. What are your 2009 resolutions?
Date an Asian Girl
Because I’ve done all the Asian dudes that one girl can do.
I say this every year, but I’ve actually got a head start this time: a whole pile of good books that I want to read, including Infinite Jest (I know, I’m on the bandwagon), The Brief and Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao and the 2009 Pushcart Prize Anthology.
Explore Los Angeles
2008 has been a year of self-discovery for me, and that journey has led me to all kinds of new places in L.A. As such, I’ve kind of fallen in love with my adopted home, but I know there are all manner of places I haven’t seen yet. I don’t have the money to travel abroad, but who needs to when there is so much right outside my door? I may even put on my Sunday best and venture west of Fairfax! Daring!
I’ve always wanted to go to this restaurant in the crazy building at LAX.
I’ve always wanted to go to this restaurant in the crazy building at LAX.
Go to Spain
I had this really amazing dream about Javier Bardem, so I’ve decided that I’m going to go to Spain next year. Somehow. Even if it means eating Ramen for the next 6 months.
To Become Famous
Just you wait and see. This is one New Year’s resolution I will most certainly accomplish. And you can tell everyone I added this to your community guide way back when :)

Pay My Mortgage on Time
I always make it in under the grace period, but I loathe having to open that statement every month. It would be better if I could sell the place and maybe (maybe) rent for a while, but I love that tax deduction every year.
Cut down on Polar Bear Meat
It’s delicious, but it’s killing my wallet.
Stop Dating Asian Girls
It’s not as good as you think.
Get something published...in print
And not just some bumf*ck newspaper, not that there’s anything wrong with those, but a big-time publication so that I can send a laminated copy to my English teacher who gave me a C in class and always asks about my sister but never me. New York Times here I come. You’re gonna suck it, Dr. G.!
Find Jesus
Dude owes me $20.
Getting up earlier ...
To wake up before 15 minutes before I have to leave. My morning routine is certainly down to bare bones at this point … but really, 15 minutes? That’s just not enough time.
No more snooze!
Stop Procrastinating- or....procrastinate less?
I work really well under pressure, so sometimes, when I wait till the last minute what I do is much BETTER than if I did it without the pressing NEED to get it done. Plus, I’m a busy girl- procrastination isn’t always a choice?
To Not Snap At My Family
Sigh… they make this resolution so hard, but I’m going to try (that is, until someone asks for the 18th time what I’m doing with my life).
See Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Willie Nelson
Three of my all-time favorites whom I never seen play. These guys will be dead soon. If I make it to all three shows that will be about two more than I typically attend in a year.
Do everything with more panache and pride
I don’t necessarily want to do MORE with 2009, but what I do manage to do, I want to do better, louder, and in much higher heels.
