A brief overview of the attractions within shoe leather express distance of Hershey Park

Hershey Trolley Works

800 Park Drive, Hershey, PA 17033

Ding, Ding, Ding goes the trolley...

...catch a ride on the Hershey Trolley Works for some singing, site seeing, chocolate themed fun.  You’ll get to see the real deal factory, the Milton Hershey mansion, the famous kiss street lights and plenty more.

Make sure you ask the tour guide/singing conductor type to drive you on the street that’s paved in chocolate.  Seriously, there IS a street paved in chocolate…and people stand on the corners handing out 5 pound chocolate bars.

Ok, Ok…so that really isn’t true.  BUT, the air around the factory does smell like chocolate.  It’s a truly unqiue experience!

Giant Center serves as the home rink for the popular Hershey Bears, of the American Hockey League. The 306,000-square-foot structure can hold more than 12,000 people, and has hosted, in addition to hockey, many high profile concerts and other events, including the music of Martina McBride, the Police, and shows by the Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus. The arena lies near Harrisburg, just below Swatara Creek Park.

It's Giant!

With seating of up to 12,500 people the Giant Center is just that.  Giant.

It is primarily the home of Hershey Bears hockey but also hosts concerts, local sporting events, and even private events.

I usually manage to get myself in on of the (sweet) suites when I attend an event(and don’t hate.  It’s just how I roll) but even the (lowly pauper) normal seats are great!

Hersheypark Arena Stadium & the Star Pavilion

100 Hershey Park Dr, Hershey, PA 17033

Concerts, Concerts, Concerts!

I’ve been to so many concerts at the Stadium and Star Pavilion I couldn’t even being to talk about them all.  It is, however, a fantastic venue.

One memory that particularly sticks in my mind is the time I dropped my ID into the toilet post concert.  Yes.  AFTER I used it.  The toilet not the ID, believe me, I used the ID plenty buying too many $7.00 beers.  I may or may not have had to reach in there to get it pre-flush.  Fun, no?

Something cool?  Take advantage of the concert special ticket rate.  Get into Hershey Park the day of the concert for about $10.00 less.  All you gotta do is show your concert ticket at any ticket window.

Something even cooler?  You can totally hear the concert just fine even if you’re not actually INSIDE the gates.  And sometimes they even have merch stands on the OUTSIDE.  Spend your money on the super mega expensive concert t-shirt, you heard the concert didn’t you?

A selection of over 200 animals native to North America are cared for and open to viewing at the ZOOAMERICA North American Wildlife Park, drawn from as far away as the Alaskan tundra and the Florida Everglades. Animals are divided into five major regions and many are featured in short educational "animal encounters" or along one of the zoo's group guided tours. The zoo is located conveniently near the HERSHEYPARK theme park, Hershey's Chocolate World, the Hershey Museum, and other Hershey-related attractions.
'Hey man, take my picture!'

“Hey man, take my picture!”

Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my!

Ok. Well. Scratch the tigers part…but there is a pretty sweet porcupine!

Zoo America is connected to Hershey Park.  The entrance is close to the big arcade in the general direction of the Kissing Tower.  You can also visit the zoo without going to Hershey Park.

Spend five minutes watching the prairie dogs and you will be going home to cancel your TIVO season’s pass to Meerkat Manor.

Hershey's Choc-oh-late...

Hershey’s Chocolate. It’s a Hershey’s Chocolate World.  Wherever you go, no matter how far, you’re always near a Hershey Bar!

Hershey Park represents the legacy of Milton S. Hershey, a 110-acre, candy-themed amusement park with more than 60 rides and attractions. Founded in 1907 as a private sanctuary for Hershey's employees, it has grown into a large-scale public attraction with 10 roller coasters, an adjacent zoo, and the mini-theme park Chocolate World. The Park lies just north of downtown, near Giant Center.

Rides, Rides, and more Rides

60 rides, shows, and plenty of places to eat (you know, to fill you back up after you ride so many spinny rides you get sick!) makes Hershepark an awesome summer time desitination.

Don’t forget to pick up some Chocolate currency at Guest Services.  Seriously, people. CHOCOLATE CURRENCY?  How rad is that?  The only thing missing here an oompa loompa song and dance.

A fixture of the Hersheypark amusement complex, Chocolate World allows visitors to learn all about the process of making the company's delicious treats. Attractions include an informative and entertaining motorized ride describing the chocolate making process, a 3-D animated musical starring the Hershey Product Characters and a sizable shopping area with an array of confections, candies, homemade fudge, cookies, apparel, toys and other excellent gifts. Hershey's Chocolate World lies slightly to the north and east of Hershey's downtown, just above Giant Center.

We loves the FREE!

If you’re limited for time or limited on budget then Chocolate world is your best bet.  Parking is FREE for an hour in a small lot close to the building (unless, of course, you already paid to park in the big lot and take a FREE ride on a tram car?).  There is a FREE tour ride explaining the entire process of the Hershey bar creation.  And, a FREE chocolate sample at the end of the ride.  yum!

Personally, I can’t leave the place without getting one…or three…or a bag full of fresh baked Chocolate World cookies.  The chocolate peanut butter chip variety is probably the best sugary delight on the planet!

The Hershey Museum chronicles the century-long history of Milton S. Hershey's chocolate empire, and the theme park and town that have stemmed from it. Exhibits within feature working machinery, photos, and other artifacts in such areas as the children's Discovery Room, the Mixing it Up room, and the Old-Time Candy Kitchen, which shows how Hershey's candy was made when the company was first starting. The museum lies just north of downtown, next to the Hershey Country Club.

For those with an interest in history...

...visit the Hershey Museum to gain some smarts about the town “built on chocolate”.

Right now they are commemorating the 100 years of Hershey history.  That’s a whole lotta chocolate!
