Sunrise is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. Originally called "Sunset," the name did not sit well with the retirees whom developers wanted to attract, so a change was made to "Sunrise." As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 85,779. As of 2004, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau is 90,227 .
