I am in love with Brookline Booksmith. They are an indie lovers dream. And since I love all things indie, you can find me hanging out at the Booksmith quite often. You definitely won’t find the mainstream magazines here and instead will find…wait for it…indie magazines. Surprise surprise, right?

I love browsing their selection because many of the mags at Booksmith are mags I’ve never even heard of before. Lots of crafting mags (like ReadyMade), artsy magazines, and writing magazines. For something different, check out the Brookline Booksmith. But you’ll probably be there for a while because the whole store is pretty fabulous.

The Brookline Booksmith contributes greatly to my book addiction for many reasons. First of all, I live way too close to it. I walk by this place everyday and everyday they have beautiful tempting books sitting right in the window. Plus, this book store is so non-corporate and comfortable, I could spend hours just walking around or sitting in a comfy chair.

Plus, because the Brookline Booksmith is an independent book store, I feel like I need to support it. So I’m really just doing my duty, right?

The main floor houses a pretty typical selection, but the bargain basement is the best. There is (was?) a creepy little video rental section that is most likely dying like all of the other VHS places, but the used books that come in here are awesome. I’ve nearly completed my Kundera collection by shopping here, and if older tomes are your thing, this is the place.

This independent bookstore (yay!) seems to please everyone: those looking to discover a treasure in their used section, and those preferring to browse the new books—all organized (yep, even the used ones) and stacked to perfection.

Who doesn’t love an independent bookstore? Especially one that has fabulous bargain books (seriously, they have tons of them) and a huge used books selection? In addition to having all this, Brookline Booksmith also holds some of the best author talks and appearances of any bookstore anywhere.

And word is that the Barnes and Noble down the street from the Booksmith is closing. Score one for the independents!
