And “hangover brunch.”
Dear Diary,
I am completely hung-over. Last night Jane and I decided to do a pub crawl on South Broadway and we ended up playing Bingo at the Hi-Dive and drinking $1 Miller lites until midnight. I suggested we go next door to Sputnik to see if there was any live music, but I really just wanted one of their corn dogs. Man, they are so good…the batter is the perfect blend of sweet and salty and with the sweet potato fries….I thought for sure they would have soaked up all those beers. At least they were only a dollar because the cab ride cost us $15 together! Thank goodness it’s the weekend.
#15. This bar is the night-time haunt of Denver’s hipster crowd but on the weekends they offer a “Hangover Brunch”. The food is great and there are an abundance of vegetarian choices, if thats your bag. And a $5 bottomless mimosa will help you get started on tomorrow’s hangover.
Used to be a quiet, chill place, now a good place to hear great music and see some great art. Hipster galore prancing around drinking Pabst and horse feathers.
As one friend describes it, “Sputnik is the Epicenter of the Hipster Universe”. From the steel-topped bar, the frequently changing wall art, to the super cool menu (sweet potato fries with a choice of dipping sauces, Vietnamese Sandwiches, Corn Dogs!) the vintage Photo-Booth, and the ever present DJ spinning away in the corner, this is where all the cool kids end up. Located on “the Elbow” (the corner of Ellsworth and Broadway) and right next door to the High Dive, it is consistently a bustling hub of the art, music and fashion worlds. Some nights the action out on the front sidewalk, where the patrons step out to smoke, is more happening than inside. It makes Sputnik a great bar to go and make the scene, even when you can’t afford to go in for a drink. And on Monday nights: They have Bingo. I love the staff at this joint. They are all good-looking and friendly and once they get to know you, they’ll even buy you a drink from time-to-time. Even if you forget to wear your tiny jeans.
A big hit with local hipsters, musicians and artists, Sputnik has really great sandwiches for both meat-eaters and vegetarians. Try their fries, the accompanying sauce choices are superb! You can get an espresso or a strong drink, depending on your mood. There are nightly events and live music often plays next door. Did I mention there’s free wifi?

Five bucks will buy you a bottomless mimosa at Sputnik’s Hangover Brunch. Bring a book or your laptop and let the power of Orange Juice and Champagne nurse you back to full strength.
