If you do make the trip, I personally recommend also hitting up Joyce Bakeshop after the BBG. In the heart of Prospect Heights, Joyce serves fresh cups of Gorilla Coffee and their own take on the Black and White cookie – fresh baked cuts of yellow sponge cake with rich frosting smoothed on top. Sooo worth it…
I am proud to call Joyce my neighborhood bake shop, and luckily, there are a always a few cupcake varieties on hand, including Red Velvet. The staff is friendly, and you can see Joyce herself in the back kitchen, mentoring her bakers.

Joyce is a coffee and goodies Godsend; while the regular coffee is a bit on the bitter side, the coffee drinks (cafe au lait, latte, mocha) are well-made.
While java seems to be a particularly difficult edible to perfect, baked goods and pastries are almost more so. At some point you just settle for cardboard cookies and tasteless croissants, but at Joyce you don’t have to. Everything IS homemade and it-ohmygosh-tastes like it!
