Primitivo

I’m a big fan of the Primitvo happy hour. They have a pretty good selection of wine here (and sangria!!), and the food is pretty tasty (get the lamb sliders!)
This spot specializes in wines and tapas, but don’t think you’re just going to get a piece of cheese with some olives. Primitivo serves up rack of lamb, steak, short ribs, risotto, paella, etc… So you can feel free to imbibe in some of their many wines without getting tipsy too fast. Happy hour offers up glasses of sangria and red wine for under $5!
I went here for the first time a couple months ago, and I thought it was pretty good. My only complaint was that we came for Happy Hour thinking we would save ourselves some cash, but I guess we ended ordering too much food, because it wasn’t all that cheap! But I thought the sangria was pretty good (and reasonably priced at $4 a glass). NOTE: it’s much cheaper to get individual glasses of sangria during Happy Hour then to get a whole pitcher. We ordered the cauliflower soup, the hummus and veggie platter, the brussels sprouts, the lamb sliders, the short ribs, and the tortilla Espanola (a potato frittata served with sour cream). I’d definitely get the lamb sliders again, as well as the frittata. And after seeing all the rave reviews, I think I might have to try the bacon wrapped dates next time I’m in Venice.

This wine bistro on the restaurant-dense strip of Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice is hip and cozy without being intimidating. The tapas selection is vast with hot and cold menus and a nice wine selection. The crowd is typical of Venice – put together and a little artsy, but more concerned with fulfilling a craving for bacon-wrapped dates than for making the scene.
