A cooperatively owned, democratically run grocery store which could single-handily delay our planet’s environmental destruction by two years. There’s a bike-rider’s discount; a BYO bag discount; no meat whatsoever; and a plethora of organic and gluten-free foods, often sold in bulk. It’s expensive, but with every purchase you get a complimentary unwarranted sense of superiority.
HUGE vegetarian co-op. I like this place because they sell things in bulk, they’re slightly less expensive than the other health food/co-ops in the area, and because I can get all my hippie dippie organic beauty products here like Jason facewash and Home Health astringent. It’s always really packed with good-looking young people who believe in local food and saving the earth, which is a plus.
Rainbow is the MECCA of pretentious organic food, and thank God for its existence. No where in my entire life have I encountered a grocery store this amazing. Literally the best place on Earth. They sell Doctor Brommer’s in bulk, and they make nearly everything in house as well as selling it pre-packaged. Why buy pre-packaged organic miso when you back get black, red, white, or yellow miso that Rainbow makes on site? San Franciscans are ridiculously spoiled.
