    I say the phrase “Hot Mess” originated with the performer Ke$ha’s popular 2010 song: Take it Off. The lyrics stem from a wild, likkered-up party in some glittery dump of a nightclub: “Now, we’re all gettin’ smashed, knocking over trash cans/ E’rybody breakin’ bottles, it’s a filthy hot mess.” Obviously adding some kind of substance abuse is also a pre-requisite.
