Hi, this is Coachbulldog..the guy that acted like a jerk over your Verizon/smart phone entry. I am writing to offer a sincere apology and thank you. Most 50-something men are obsessed with things like cars when midlife hits. My obsession was phones. I thought I had to have an iPhone and was mad at Verizon for not offering it. When I read your entry, I took my frustrations out on you. Easy to do on the ’net. But I reread your post last weekend and took a chance and bought a used Blackberry Curve. IT IS WONDERFUL!. It does everything I want a phone to do; read the news, listen to streaming radio, and live audio of baseball games. Everything I would want from an iPhone my Blackberry touch does. I am sorry for being harsh with you. Your entry was spot-on. Best wishes, Kevin

Sorry you’ve had issues with Verizon! While I don’t work for them at all, I’ve been a customer for years now. I think for MLB Gameday audio, you’ll probably want to go with one of the Blackberries or a Windows Mobile Device (like the HTC line)… If you choose a Blackberry, don’t go with the Curve or the Pearl as I’ve heard that Gameday audio is only available through the browser… Hope that helps!

My apologies for being so negative. Over the past several months I’ve had issues with Verizon and your entry became the object of my frustration. Your entry was more intelligently written than my responses. I have printed off your entry and I am going to my Verizon store today with an open mind and see first hands the phones you described. I hope one of them will offer MLB Gameday audio. No more negative posts. Best wishes, Coach

Hi. In interest of moving this off of my guide… I’m not out to say that any of those phones are better than the iPhone. I even state that I want an iPhone myself. I just wanted to point out that Verizon does indeed have good phones and let people know about some of the new ones.

    Verizon Alternatives to the iPhone

Verizon apps?!? Why does Verizon charge a monthly subscription fee for apps that other carriers either offer for free or a one time purchase price?

I agree with you and that is why I hold my nose and stay with Verizon. It is a shame that none of Verizon’s phones come close to the iPhone. I am holding out hope for the Storm 2.

    Verizon Alternatives to the iPhone

The Omnia, Blackberry Storm, or any other Verizon phone does not come close to being what the iPhone is. AT&T is gaining subscribers at Verizon’s expense. Hopefully more will follow.
