The Sumpter Valley Railroad offers old fashioned steam engine rides through the wooded hills of the Sumpter Valley. The train's five mile route passes by gold dredge tailings and other historic remnants from the area's mining operations. Special events occur frequently, including exciting reenactments of a train robbery and opportunities for visitors to operate a real steam locomotive. The train travels between the McEwen Depot, located southeast of Sumpter, and the Sumpter Depot on the southern side of town.
