Old Town State Historic Park is the best place for visitors to understand the area's history and experience life in the 1800s through historical buildings, demonstrations and exhibits. Another popular attraction is the Whaley House Museum, which showcases period furnishings and is famous for its ghost sightings. Situated in southern Mission Valley, Old Town is three miles north of downtown San Diego and is best explored by walking or with a trolley tour.
