Living up to its slogan "The Greatest Snow on Earth," Alta Ski Area has 2,200 skiable acres of land, offering a vertical change of over 2,000 feet, and receives an annual average of more than 500 inches of snow. Open only to skiers, the area has primarily intermediate and advanced-level runs, although there are also a decent number of runs for beginning skiers. Nestled in the Wasatch Mountains, just 25 miles outside of Salt Lake City, it is close to the Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort, which does allow snowboarders on its slopes.
