Quite possibly the most awesome event in the history of awesome events is happening at Beach Chalet Fields. the 141st Fog Bowl Quidditch Tournament has been set up pitting different houses in San Francisco against each other. From the Alcatraz Birdmen to Presidio Pelicans, all of the city is represented. While I can’t promise any actual flying brooms, a great deal of running with a broom between your legs will definitely happen.
Where all the magic is happening.
Where better to take a break from the world and just enjoy the outdoors than Golden Gate Park? The park is huge and you can always find something that fits your mood, whether it’s strolling through the tea garden or just sitting on a blanket in front of the windmill.
They recently gutted the playground, which is a shame. I remember riding down enormous concrete slides on little pieces of cardboard back in the 80s when parents didn’t really care if you lived or died.
In April the Golden Gate Park Band starts up again with their Sunday concerts at the Music Concourse. Not to be missed.
Try to find the Shakespeare garden if you can. It’s a neat little spot in the park that’s easily overlooked.
With so much to see you may have to take a few days to hike through Golden Gate Park. There’s a possibility that you’ll run into a concert or drop into a museum or a botanical garden.
Just make sure to bring comfy shoes and a good map as the winding sidewalks will get you turned around.
Elijay saw Radiohead at the Outside Lands Festival at Golden Gate Park. I saw Os Mutantes in a smaller area last summer at Stern Grove Festival.
Watch the rollerbladers do their fancy tricks every Sunday in Golden Gate Park.
There are lots of dueling creatures here. I’ve never seen anything too crazy . . . except for that seagull dive-bombing the tai-chi practicioner.
Pop a squat on the grass (free admission to the park) and watch the crowds flow past.
