First launched in 1934 and making its maiden voyage in 1936, the Queen Mary was initially a passenger freighter; more than 1,000 feet in length, it could hold over 1,900 passengers. After service in World War II and retirement in 1967, the ship is now a multi-functional tourist attraction, offering shops, restaurants, bars, live entertainment and historic tours. Passengers can stay overnight in the on-board hotel, take a guided tour covering stories about the ship's reputation as a haunted location or have a drink at the lovely Observation Bar. Located on the water near downtown, the ship is just east of Long Beach Harbor.
