Description

The Castle Clinton National Monument is a circular fort originally built in 1811 to defend the New York coastline from English forces, who were gearing up for the War of 1812. Today the fort offers an insightful museum that explains the history of the fort and the many changes it went through. During the summer months, the fort is considered to be one of the best places in the city to enjoy a picnic lunch. It is located on the southern tip of Manhattan, in Battery Park.
