The Bank of Florence, for instance, was the first bank to open west of the Missouri River, unofficially opening the territory for settlement and issuing its own currency. The 1846 Winter Quarters gristmill and the old Florence Depot are also popular attractions, as well as the Fort Omaha home of famed General George Crook. Located in north Omaha, the Florence neighborhood lies on the Missouri River near the Mormon Bridge.
