The Audubon Aquarium of the Americas is one of the nations most respected of its kind, featuring 10,000 animals that represent more than 530 species of animals. The aquarium is located on the southeast corner of the French Quarter, near the Shoppes at Canal Place. The Gulf of Mexico exhibit, which features three species of sharks, is the site's largest, holding over 400,000 gallons of water in a 17-foot high tank.
