An important regional museum for the display of world-class art, the Wichita Art Museum has a permanent collection consisting of more than 7,000 unique pieces. Much of the collection focuses on works of American art spanning from the 1700s to the present day, including a large holding of decorative and functional glass art pieces. American art is not the only feature of the museum, however, and other groupings include European paintings and drawings, pre-Columbian art and Native American baskets and ceremonial garb. One of the many attractions in the downtown area of Topeka, nearby attractions include the Mid-America All-Indian Center, the Old Cowtown Museum and Sims Park on the east bank of the Arkansas River. « less
