Dedicated to American humorist Will Rogers, the 80-foot high Shrine of the Sun is also the tomb of deceased gold-baron Spencer Penrose, who established many popular attractions in the area including the Broadmoor Hotel and the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Found on the National Register of Historic Places, the shrine features a turret made from local gray-pink granite, a small chapel, rooms dedicated to Will Rogers and chimes that ring every quarter hour. The shrine is accessible by driving through the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and from the top visitors can look out over the entirety of the Garden of the Gods, as well as the Colorado Springs metropolitan area.
