Description

Established in 1865 as a military fort, Fort Selden housed both U.S. Infantry and Cavalry, who were there to protect settlers from the threats of Apache Indians and desperadoes. It was decommissioned in 1891 as the perceived threat in the area lessened. Located near the scenic Leasburg Dam State Park in Radium Springs, the monument is 13 miles northwest of Las Cruces.
