One of the best spots for people-watching in Boston; sit on the Common for an hour and I guarantee you will come away with more stories than you know what to do with. I’m tempted to start a whole Boston Common blog just filled with the craziness that occurs on this grassy little spot of Boston.

There is so much history in this place its not even funny. The oldest park in the US, Revolutionary soldiers encamped here when fighting off the colonists; the Brits made camps here often during this war. This park is also part of the historical Freedom Trail, and is connected to Massachusetts State House and Beacon Hill. This park stretches for nearly fourteen miles, part of an intertwined series of public parks in the downtown area; like Boston’s version of Central Park, only with more history.

As far as open-air drug use and general destitution is concerned, the Common is probably the hub of downtown Boston. Shady characters abound, and when the likes of them combine with an ever-increasing law enforcement presence, things are bound to get ugly.

Occasionally bystanders (read: me) get to observe things like a Boston police officer attempting to leap a seven-inch-high decorative chain fence, failing, and falling onto his face. Most of the time, though, you just see shouting and fights.
